Writing Wednesday | Poem: Fairy Child

I wrote this back when I was in my Junior year of high school for my creative writing class. This was actually on of my favorite pieces to write because of the style it's written in: sestina. I love this piece and I hope you do too.

Fairy Child

Like a lonely passing thought
the girl felt the summer breeze
that accompanied the night
surrounded by the dark
she sat in the garden
watching the fairy blooms

sway in the wind. Pretty blooms
from her thought
world of a fairy garden
with her hair fluttering in the breeze
outlined by the dark
starry night

She began walking into the night
surrounded by the fragrant blooms
dancing in the dark
I wonder where I’ll go. she thought
as the gentle breeze
followed her from the garden

Leaving behind the garden
engulfed in the night
followed by the breeze
she smelled of exotic blooms
to those who thought
she was a creature of the dark

The girl continued in the dark
passing many a garden
Do my parents miss me? she thought
looking up at the starry sky of night
wishing for some pretty blooms
to dance in the breeze

She heard a cry floating in the breeze
looking in the dark
for her as blooms
danced in a nearby garden
shrouded by night
without a thought

Running without a thought as the breeze
whipped her face in the night, surrounded by dark
into a garden and hiding amongst the blooms.

Writing Wednesday | "Rolling Hills and Mighty Mountains"

This is something I wrote for a contest of some type for figment.com. I just love this one a lot because it's based off a vacation I took years ago. Hope you all enjoy! It started out as any vacation would. A long car drive down the highway watching other cars zoom by and making shapes out of the clouds. Sometimes I would sleep, but other times I would imagine being anywhere else than in the car. Grandpa would look at me in the rear view mirror from time to time as he drove, but I paid no special attention to his glances. Why should I? I didn't want to be stuck in the car as we headed to see some relatives I had never met in West Virginia. I was bored. There was nothing to do but stare out the window and even that got boring after a while. "What are you thinking about, Nicole?" Mom asked from behind me. I turned around in my seat to look at Mom. She was reading another Jane Austen novel while my sister was leaning against her shoulder, asleep. How my mo...
