Blog Update

Hello fellow readers! I'm sorry if I haven't been posting as often, but I felt like I needed to get away from the blog for a while. I'm writing this to let you know that I will not be posting for about a week or two. I'm doing this to customize the look of the blog. I feel like the look of it is too boring or not functional to what I want it to be. I'm not abandoning this blog, I'm just fixing it up. See you soon. Happy reading!

Five Tips to Get Out of a Reading Slump

Hey fellow readers! So seeing as I've been in a bit of an off-and-on reading slump for the past couple of months, I decided that I'll give you a few tips to help you all get out of a slump when you find yourselves in one. Without further preamble, here are five tips to out of a reading slump. 1.  Do Something Else: Sometimes after a really good/emotional/powerful book, it's easy to fall into a reading slump. Doing something else- whether it be playing video games or watching t.v.- can be a worthwhile break from reading. A break from reading can sometimes help to reignite the passion to read. 2. Get a Change of Scenery: Reading in the same spot all the time can cause a reading slump. So go find a new spot to read! Be it in the kitchen, the living room, or outside. Reading in a different place can be very beneficial to keep from falling into a slump. 3. Find a New Genre to Read: When reading the same genre over and over again, it causes a reading slump due to reading th...

Writing Wednesday | "Rolling Hills and Mighty Mountains"

This is something I wrote for a contest of some type for figment.com. I just love this one a lot because it's based off a vacation I took years ago. Hope you all enjoy! It started out as any vacation would. A long car drive down the highway watching other cars zoom by and making shapes out of the clouds. Sometimes I would sleep, but other times I would imagine being anywhere else than in the car. Grandpa would look at me in the rear view mirror from time to time as he drove, but I paid no special attention to his glances. Why should I? I didn't want to be stuck in the car as we headed to see some relatives I had never met in West Virginia. I was bored. There was nothing to do but stare out the window and even that got boring after a while. "What are you thinking about, Nicole?" Mom asked from behind me. I turned around in my seat to look at Mom. She was reading another Jane Austen novel while my sister was leaning against her shoulder, asleep. How my mo...

Writing Wednesday | Writing Prompt "Candy Hearts"

Since Valentine's Day was yesterday, I decided to post this piece in honor of it. The writing might seem a little rushed, so I apologize for that. Without further ado, I present to you "Candy Hearts"! Sophia gave a mental groan when she walked into school and saw all the red heart decorations in the halls. Today was Valentine's Day and she was not so happy about it. She could already hear several couples saying sweet nothings to each other and practically see them kissing like there's no tomorrow. She walked to her locker where her best friend, Amy, was waiting. "Morning, Sophia!" Amy exclaimed, enthusiastically. Sophia gave her a glare and opened her locker. Amy giggled at her best friend's expression. She knew how much Sophia hated Valentine's Day ever since her ex-boyfriend broke up with her on the same day almost three years ago. For Sophia, this day always brought back such painful memories. She took out some books, put them in ...

A Beautiful Journey in Self-discovery | The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Title: The Sun is Also a Star Author: Nicola Yoon Series: None Genre: Contempoary Release Date: November 1st, 2016 Publisher: Delacorte Press Edition: Hardcover Rating: 5 Stars Why I Read/Listened to the Book: I read Everything, Everything by her back in 2015 and fell in lover with her writing style. This was also one of my most anticipated releases of 2016. Synopsis: Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story. Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more ex...

Writing Wednesday | Writing Propmt "Winter Solstice"

Happy New Year everyone! I am so sorry for not posting in such along time, but I promise you that I will be posting regularly from now on (baring that life doesn't get in the way too much). Today, I thought it would be best to do something a little different. I love writing prompts because you can always do something different with them all the time. This one is actually one of my favorite prompts because it is whimsical and I could expand it into a novel if I wanted. Without further ado, here is what I think of when I think of Winter Solstice. Emmaline sat on a snow covered log, watching the Winter Fey danced round and round the bonfire. Evana, the queen of Winter, sat on her icy throne next to Emmaline's log while talking to Lord Draven about some political things that made absolutely no sense to Emmaline. For as long as she could remember, Emmaline has always been kept near Evana no matter where in the ice palace.  The others called her "Evana's Little Pet."...
