Title: Delirium (Delirium #1)

Author: Lauren Oliver
Genre: Young Adult Dystopian
Published: February 2012
Medium Read In: Paperback
Pages: 441

Rating: 4

Why I Read It: I was curious to what all the good ratings were about.

Summary: Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't.

Review: This book reminded me a lot like Matched by Allie Condie, in which the government systems are slightly alike. The only difference is that love still exists in Matched whereas it does not exist in this book. I found it difficult to relate to Lena in anyway until the end of the novel. Lena's single-minded devotion to the system for most of the book aggravated me to no end and made me wish for a more rebellious heroine. If this story had been about Hana, Lena's best friend, this book would probably have been better. Throughout the book, Hana was trying to get Lena to see that maybe the system is not always a good thing. Lena does not totally understand her friend until she spends time with Alex. Lena then begins to understand what her mother felt after her father died. The book seemed to lead up to some big point at the end, but it still left me hanging due to that evil cliff-hangers. All in all, this was a good starting book to this trilogy and I may be inclined to see how it continues.

Writing Wednesday | Writing Propmt "Winter Solstice"

Happy New Year everyone! I am so sorry for not posting in such along time, but I promise you that I will be posting regularly from now on (baring that life doesn't get in the way too much). Today, I thought it would be best to do something a little different. I love writing prompts because you can always do something different with them all the time. This one is actually one of my favorite prompts because it is whimsical and I could expand it into a novel if I wanted. Without further ado, here is what I think of when I think of Winter Solstice. Emmaline sat on a snow covered log, watching the Winter Fey danced round and round the bonfire. Evana, the queen of Winter, sat on her icy throne next to Emmaline's log while talking to Lord Draven about some political things that made absolutely no sense to Emmaline. For as long as she could remember, Emmaline has always been kept near Evana no matter where in the ice palace.  The others called her "Evana's Little Pet."

Writing Wednesday | "Rolling Hills and Mighty Mountains"

This is something I wrote for a contest of some type for figment.com. I just love this one a lot because it's based off a vacation I took years ago. Hope you all enjoy! It started out as any vacation would. A long car drive down the highway watching other cars zoom by and making shapes out of the clouds. Sometimes I would sleep, but other times I would imagine being anywhere else than in the car. Grandpa would look at me in the rear view mirror from time to time as he drove, but I paid no special attention to his glances. Why should I? I didn't want to be stuck in the car as we headed to see some relatives I had never met in West Virginia. I was bored. There was nothing to do but stare out the window and even that got boring after a while. "What are you thinking about, Nicole?" Mom asked from behind me. I turned around in my seat to look at Mom. She was reading another Jane Austen novel while my sister was leaning against her shoulder, asleep. How my mo

Blog Update

Hello fellow readers! I'm sorry if I haven't been posting as often, but I felt like I needed to get away from the blog for a while. I'm writing this to let you know that I will not be posting for about a week or two. I'm doing this to customize the look of the blog. I feel like the look of it is too boring or not functional to what I want it to be. I'm not abandoning this blog, I'm just fixing it up. See you soon. Happy reading!
